Stineman Stellar in Circle as Sandburg Softball Sweeps Black Hawk

The Carl Sandburg College softball team erupted for 22 runs on 32 hits and freshman Kylie Stineman (New Boston, Ill./Mercer County) picked up the victory in both ends of a doubleheader sweep of Arrowhead Conference rival Black Hawk on Thursday as the Chargers won 7-3 and 15-9.

Key Moment
The Chargers tied the game at 2-2 in the second on an RBI single from Haley Stevenson (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg). Sandburg took the lead for good one batter later as Adre Vetter (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) stole home as part of a double steal with runners at the corners.

Sandburg Star of the Game
Stineman settled in after allowing a pair of first-inning runs. She allowed just one run on five hits over her final six innings in a complete-game victory. Stineman struck out two and didn’t issue a walk.

Key Moment
The Braves tied the game at 9-9 with a pair of sixth-inning runs, but Sandburg sent 10 batters to the plate in the seventh as it blew the game open with a six-run frame. Stevenson’s tiebreaking, two-run single to left proved to be the game-winner.

Sandburg Star of the Game
After going the distance in Game 1, Stineman came on in relief of Benge to record the final five outs and pick up her second victory of the day. Stineman allowed just one hit and needed only 14 pitches to finish off the win. She came on in the sixth with runners at second and third but got a popup and groundout to keep the game tied. After allowing a leadoff single in the seventh, she induced a groundball for a double play followed by another grounder to short to close the game.
